devs have posted that it's only if you have negative pr in YOUR OWN faction that you get no insurance.
EDIT: uhm...Xindaan recently linked this dusty old thread, and i'd like to note that i'm not sure about the above comment, nor am i certain if prices have changed since a year ago...

Pending the new (and much needed) insurance rules to be implemented, if you hold a negative pol rating in any faction and die you will lose all equipment at your cost. That's right, no insurance will be paid. So I took the time to calculate how much this would cost me per death. Then I got carried away and did it for every faction. Keeping in mind the loadouts are biased to what I would use and not necessarily yourself. But it gives you a general idea as too how much a bountied player would be losing.

First lets start with a ranking of ships, from which will cost the most to least:

(Sol Bomber) Barracuda - Approx. $7.2 Million
(Quant Bomber) Tornado - Approx. $6.9 Million
(Oct Bomber) Raptor - Approx. $6.7 Million
(Quant Fighter) Typhoon - Approx. $6.6 Million
(Sol Mid-Fighter) Invader - Approx. $6.5 Million
(Quant Mid-Fighter) Tempest - Approx. $6.3 Million
(Oct Mid-Fighter) Chiropretan - Approx. $6.2 Million
(Sol Tow) Pioneer - Approx. $3.9 Million
(Oct Tow) Condor - Approx. $3.8 Million
(Oct Fighter) Phoenix - Approx. $3.6 Million
(Quant Tow) Thunder - Approx. $3.3 Million
(Sol Fighter) Intensity - Approx. $3.2 Million

Sol Total: $20.8 Million
Oct Total: $20.3 Million
Quant Total: $23.1 Million

You can make your own conclusions... to me it looks like Quant criminals will be paying alot per death. And Intensity pilots will be happy they are Solrain.

As for the ship loadouts I used you can check them all out below if you wish:

I have much more detailed and useful spreadsheets which I use as Quartermaster for OV - I think it's about time I made them public.

They have exact figures for cost, uninsured death, and average insurance/tax loss for all the ships we fly/fight against.

Octavian
Solrain
Quantar

Mostly because I'm fed up having to justify myself to stat-whores (*coughPJcough*) when I make the call not to fight an enemy - simply put, if the numbers on their reequip sheet at the end are lower than ours, then we lost. And I don't fight a battle to lose.

Muffy edit: you can find a XLS viewer in the '3rd party Proggie' sticky thread in this forum

  1. back to the topic...
  2. Well, that already exists in some way - if you die often, your insurance goes down.
  3. Also the insurance is a TRI insurance (the only possible source of income would be TRI taxes and a private company would be bancrupt long since already anyway, even if they got 100% of TRIs taxes) and it is certainly in TRIs interest to make life hard for bountied pilots and easy for those carrying out police duties (pls remember TRI != MG).
  4. On a general note I agree that some sort of squad diversification would be a good idea (if you found a squad, it has to belong to a certain category and gets benefits for that category and disadvantages for others).

#1. On topic? What? did i miss the bit where fudge baking became hip?
the one thing i liked about NetDevil is that they were predictable. when they posted, they'd always reply to some BS spam thread and ignore the one decent thread getting hits for fear of revealing their naivette
#2. yeah? please explain to me why even the top ranking death pilot has an insurance rating of 8.9? (explain to me how the 2nd highest death pilot has 9.7 makes your definition somehow mean anything?)
i mean, you'd have to be some complete GIT like some stooge who's obviously dying on purpose to help someone statpad or just thinks carnal knowledge of Emma is how you get "1337 JG h@xx0r sk1llz!!1 LOLOL"
#3. Thank you. yes, TRI taxes for gear at 10% base is an amazing thing when you think about it...What is the official *IC justification* for such a thing? (do you have one beyond that snide comment about making death "meaningful" in this crapped out economy just because it affects only a particular roleplay and ignoring the fact a blanket penalty is akin to complete mediocrity? personally, i wouldn't care, but you are the RP lead here and mediocrity should be the last buzz word in yer repertoire)
i mean, Bounty hunters never civrip by their very nature and exploit the vigilante culture like farmers on amphetamines...when's the last time you saw someone "RPing" a bounty hunter civrip to justify their RP? If they did it would be hardly "In Character" that's for sure, and if it was *IC* then i'd hardly classify your use of the word "RP" as representative of the hardcore vigilantes and more illustrative of inane banter.
#4. What you basically did was take a really cool thread and shot it full of holes with yer UBERized nerf-potatoe gun contraption...BTW, i thought that last paragraph was something a cat would puke up. hopefully the cat now feels better

post-MG EDIT: Personally, if you ask me, i'd say that the insurance equation and the entire concept of TRI taxes needs a serious renovation along with the economy, ship/gear, missions and PvP issues. (un-fucking-fortunately since no official GM has ever understood too well the concept that "self-policing" never has and never will work therefore "self-defense" for anyone with a bounty is treated as the former concept.)
ie. you asked to be "raped" because of that "dress" you were wearing, slut (of course, MG loves the fact they weren't the rapist - ND are. they always say that stupid disclaimer even if the entire community knows it. "Hey! don't blame us for not calling the cops and being voyeurs")...and they have the nerve to talk about how the community breeds griefers and it's their duty to "GM-Police" the server? That's like really funny shit, man. Talk about building a horse by committee
The irony is that GMSilk never understood what that topic was about in the first place. loooooooooser.

do note they dropped the price of the instigator finally...not sure if it's permanent, so do check a market lister for the latest cost. Besides, this thread is sorta obsolete now anyways seeing as so much new gear has been added. (not to mention new ships)
*shrug* besides, i really wish they'd scale insurance loss instead of the arbitrary all or nothing crapfest they have had since the 'inhibitor chip' fiasco
it's all total BS anyways since most statpadders have farmer 2nd accounts, and we all know the entire JG economy is bunk. (heard a rumor that bounties are an event bigger cash cow)
