I saw someone say they asked Josh about what that ship is. Josh replied "Heavy Transport".

Again, the solution to the ship balance problem that was reached by the test server was dependant on 3 items being completed.
1. Fixing the missile hitboxes OF ALL FIGHTERS (the nix being by far the worse affected, the Intensity being a distant second from some angles)
2. Introduction of a S3 laser (using more power than the thorn and doing more damage)
3. Introduction of an S2 Ion cannon to go with the FeatherFire (which would give the phoon an energy efficient weapon set).

These points address the current ship balance problems in the HF class. All I am asking for is their implimentation preferably in advance of the return of the MS on the EU sever.

We should have more info on the new ships out later today, after they begin testing. I don't want to spoil anything by giving information when we don't have the names or pictures available yet

The 4 ship limit is for server storage-related reasons - it takes a lot of data to store a full ship loadout. I believe you can put in multiple ship hangar modules if you really want to store more than 4 ships though.

I just checked, and yes, you definitely can equip multiple hangars if you need more room.

I believe the news will be first posted on the JOSSH news, as part of a story release. I'll make sure to post an update to point people to it on the forums as well.

ooooooooooooo...later TODAY!?? w00t

While general stats on these have been determined, the specifics are still open for interpretation. What do you see as the roles that these ships should fill, and what stats and equipment slots should they have to meet these expectations?

Ship Types
Freighter
Heavy Fighter
Heavy Miner
Advanced Fighter

[edit]
To answer a question about the Heavy/Advanced Fighter classes, think of the Heavy Fighter as being another progression in the current Light/Medium/Fighter line of ships, and the Advanced Fighter as being a high-level ship somewhere between a Fighter and Ranger in terms of speed and firepower.

*sigh* it's a bit late for design debates, isn't it? Stall tactic anyone? Design a horse by committee anyone? Insincere casting of pearls before swine? Sounds like a bloody troll. period.

Ok. So, if the Fighter is faster and has more firepower than the medium fighter, and the medium fighter has more firepower than the light fighter, then... the heavy fighter is both faster and more gunned than a fighter? Sounds like crap / a planned redundancy of the current Fighters.

and the Advanced Fighter as being a high-level ship somewhere between a Fighter and Ranger in terms of speed and firepower.

So its essentially a medium fighter with the option of going faster than a fighter. Presumably speed mode is used to evade fighters/bombers / possibly chase scouts, and firepower mode is used to do damage to fighters.

I cant see a single cage fight (i.e. 1v1 sim combat to the death) that this ship will be capable of winning tho.

hmmm.

EP2 RELEASE (EP2 FAQ)
Fellblade wrote:
Monsoon:
Very nice with feathers or Vantage mortars. Best T/M. More armour than the sol ship. Faster. Size 3 radar. Five MODx. It's brilliant. Use it like a tensity/phoon crossbreed.

Intruder:
Best profile of the HFs. Nice gun platform, armour lower than the quant one. More energy available. Nice in group fights.

Dragon:
Cannot hit 'n run, extreme firepower. Low T/M means it is unable to close with targets at all so you can get away, if you run away early enough. Anyone stupid enough to use the new Amanathii size 5 PP deserves all they get.

There will be whining about the Sol HF. The sols are used to a tensity. The Intruder is not as much 'better' than the tensity as the Dragon/Monsoon are from their fighter counterparts

Code:
Equipment   Solrain      Oct      Quantar
Cap           4           4           4
ECM           3           2           2

Missiles      5           5           5
MODx          4           4           5
Powerplant    4           5           4

Yaw         873         733         785

heh most idiots think that the gunslots is the big issue and that quantar is suxx0rz...lol

Looks intriguing. they did a really good job, even if the tens/nix/phoon fanbois won the day, yet again.

When testing the ships we noticed the following: The Dragon is the nix of the HFs though it has better survivability then a nix; The Monsoon is the tensy of the HFs but it doesnt have full throttle fireing; The Intruder is the phoon of the HFs.

But, what was the most interesting to observe during testing was how the mixed ship fleets performed. Basicly all faction fleets got really boosted by mixing ship classes. The HFs slow down the avg speed of the fights which helps the Bombers and the bombers rock againts the HFs. Though bombers cant do the work alone they need the HFs around to take some heat of them. In fleet battles F pilots dont get any attention at all and due to the bad turn rates of the HFs the Fs are really dangerous.

So they are very very different in fleet action then in 1v1.

All I gotta say is try the HFs on some major flux - they absolutely ROCK! (IMO)
