In 0.5-1.0, firing on a player (who is not at war with you, not in your corp, and not a criminal) will result in a squad of CONCORD ships showing up and blasting you to pieces

In 0.1-0.4, there are no CONCORD ships, only the sentry guns at stations and gates will fire at you if you if you open hostilies. Unlike CONCORD, those are survivable with the right tactics, though

Criminals are those with a security status of lower then -5, and have a blinking red box on thier name in the overview, and on their icon thingy in space. You can shoot them anytime without Sentry Guns or CONCORD blowing you up.

And Yes, The only diference between 1.0 - 0.5 and 0.4 - 0.1 is the presence of CONCORD and the number of Sentry Guns around Jumpgates and Stations.

If you shoot someone in 0.1 - 0.4 police will NOT appear, but if you are near sentry guns they will open fire. You will get a security hit regardless

You can attack anyone in 0.4 space and below (otherwise known as low-sec) without Concord magically showing up and killing you. You will take a security hit if you initiate combat, but no penality if you defend yourself. Any sentry guns will also attack the aggressor. You will take a security hit, regardless of who started the fight, if you pod-kill someone.

In 0.5 space and above (high-sec), Concord will show up and kill anyone who initiates combat. You can defend yourself without repercussion, but again, pod killing the aggressor will result in both a security hit and Concord killing you.

People with a security status below -5 are always free game. Likewise, anyone in a corporation you are at war with can be attacked at any time with no repercussions. And once you reach non-Empire 0.0, anything goes.

when determining when sentries will shoot at you, you have to evaluate some things.

1) is the system owned by an empire. to determine this look at the name. if it's an actual name (edbinger for example) then the sentries will shoot you reguardless of system sec rating.

2) if it's not owned by empire, ie a series of numbers and letters (ROIR for example) the guns will only protect the station.

3) if the individual you're shooting is -5 or worse you can shoot at him no matter what the sec rating/sentry status. however, as with any act of aggression you still incur the aggression timer that prevents you from jumping or docking.

Basically you can't do anything that has a negative effect on another players property (unless he's in your corp) and you can't do anything which has a positive effect on a ship engaged by CONCORD.
Zanthiuse wrote:
in .4 and below concord will not attack. However, if you are in within 200km of a sentry gun at either a gate or station, they will fire on you. Also, after attacking sombody you will be "flagged" for 15-20 minutes (somtimes longer). Durring this time anybody may attack you without taking a sec hit, and sentries will fire at you.

wel, basically the pvp rules stay the same. i.e if you shoot at someone who hasn't got a -5 sec status or less, in .5 empire. You will get the concord gank squad paying you a visit.

On the bounties page, you will see a list of the top 20 bounties, the green square indicates if they are on-line or off-line, to find them you will need a level 4 search agent i.e level 4 internal security agent, they will be able to locate your prey, any where in the eve universe.

As for ships and such, depends from target to target, but remember that to claim the bounty you have to pod kill your target, destroying only their ship gives you nothing.
So its always a good idea to take some friends along for the ride, and having one in a frig/intie as a pod sweep is very helpful.

But remember some of these high bounties, tend to be grouped with members of their own corp/alliance and the majority have a lot of PvP expirence.

As for the smacktalk side of things, depends some will but most won't.. and if it was a good fight, will tell you so.

I think all bounties are placed by other players.

A player can place a bounty on any other player and it is therefor possible to have a perfectly legal (ie sec rating above -5) to have a bounty. You will not be able to hunt these guys in secure space (anything above 0.0) without incurring a security penalty for yourself. If you hunt them in 0.5 space or above you'll also have the problem of the police.

Anyone with a sec rating of illegal (-5 or less) can be hunted anywhere with no risk. You are therefore extremely unlikely to find these guys in any space other than 0.0

CRIMINAL FLAGGING
Monty Burns wrote:
Yeah the timer has a random factor to it.

I once lost a hauler after 45 mins, petitioned and was told "tough". The timer can actually be anywhere from 15 to 120mins, the higher numbers are rare though. This was all from a helpdesk person <shrug> so I guess it could be BS.

Better luck next time ... and check your targets!
unsure of the veracity of this...i suspect it could be a timer that's reset if you get targetted by concord during the countdown...i'm also positive (if i'm correct) that the timer still runs down if you're logged off

Thanks for you info. The reason I ask was I'd heard that Sentry Guns might be just to protect Stations.

there are sentries outside npc stations in 0.0 to protect the station i think... but 0.1 to 0.4 they will attack you and kill you unless you tank.

2) if it's not owned by empire, ie a series of numbers and letters (ROIR for example) the guns will only protect the station.

okay, how about Sisters of Eve? are they an "empire"? Would the sentry guns ignore a -5 (or less) pirate firing on a trader leaving or arriving at the station?

What is the current official source of detailed information on security status?

Given that the answer to this question is probably: there is none, here are a few of my particular questions:

1) what are the aggression and podkill penalty percentages?

2) the EVE support page says players can kill pods of criminals in empire without CONCORD intervening, but you still get the podkill security hit right?

3) how do NPC stations in 0.0 behave? do they only fire on people with negative standing to them or will they fire on aggressors as well? do they allow aggressors to dock?

4) can you still attack and podkill corp members with no penalty?

5) if somebody aggresses a member of your gang can you attack them without penalty?

6) can you still attack a gang member without penalty or was that changed? what about podkilling them?

7) how can you tell when your aggression timer is up?

8) if you are a criminal and another player attacks you will you lose security status if you return fire?

9) if you are a criminal and another player attacks you, will you be criminally flagged (ie, be unable to dock or jump)

10) if you are a criminal and travelling in 0.1-0.4 will sentry guns only attack you if you aggress someone or something and get flagged, or do they attack you all the time automatically?

11) can event ships and gms still be attacked at any time and place without penalty? do you get aggression flagged for attacking event ships and gms?

12) if you are a criminal and evade CONCORD in a high-security system and make it to a station will the station's guns open up on you?

1) Aggression: -.5%
Ship Kill: -4.0%
Podkill: -12.5%

2) No. Outlaws may be podded with no hits or penalties of any kind.

3) The sentries will only fire to protect the station, AFAIK. Normal aggression/docking rules apply.

4) Yes.

5) No. You may only attack someone if they have attacked you. However, they are free to attack you if you are in gang with someone they can shoot.

6) No. You will take the usual penalty for attacking/podding a gang member, including CONCORD/sentry response.

7) You can dock/jump.

8) No.

9) No.

10) Sentries will only attack if you are criminally flagged.

11) Dunno.

12) No. CONCORD does not attack outlaws in .5+, the faction navy NPCs do. Sentries will not attack you, unless you become criminally flagged by attacking someone. Then CONCORD will respond as well as the faction navies.
