Download site has moved to here
Okay, i recommend this program because it gives profit/second (which gives some surprising results)

Important thing for EU players:

You will need to edit "stations.txt". Replace "The Cornea" with "The Cornes" and "The Great Pillars" with "The Great Pillers". (Only the first entry in each line.) This is due to a misspelling of these stations in the EU inventory.txt.

Edit: Whee. Thanks to Fido/US, this went a lot quicker.

There now is an update file (for both servers) which updates the new commodities, new engines, new ships and everything. All this done by Fido. My small contribution was giving options like "Dream+AB4" as engine choices.

Also, for EU players, there is the above described EU-Station name fix ready for download.

Fido has sent me two new files containing information about the recently added sectors as well as accurate path information for the existing ones. Use the link in my previous posting for the download of the update file. The files "jg2.txt" and "sectors.txt" are the added ones. Thanks to Fido.

First off, what is QPC?

Well, it stands for Quantar Profit Calculator. This was made by some evil sneaky Quantar...who helped many get rich, Quant or not. Be you Quantar, Solrain, or even the rare greedy Octavian, this program is worth at least an hour of your time to check it out.

The thing that makes QPC special from the other BPC (that's Best Profit Calculator for you n00bs to the cash biz) is it's unique way of presenting the data to you. JGWebTracker is all fine and dandy for seeing what run has the highest credits profit, but QPC tells you what the quickest cred is.

Whazzat?!, you say? Well, here's how it works [According to me. This is all behind the scenes anyway, so it doesn't matter.] It first calculates the highest profit runs. Then, using the specific data it has on your ship (including mass, top speed, acceleration, and whatnot) it goes "KAZAAM!" and figures out the best profits per second run. Cool, huh? A lot of the time this run is also the best profits you would find on JGWebTracker, but sometimes it saves you from scrolling through a ton of Uranium runs from Quantar Core (Haha! The irony of the Quantar Profit Calc reveals itself!)

Why haven't I heard of this wonderful program before?, you ask. Well, there is only one thing keeping this baby from being the hottest item on the market. It's not too user friendly.

Never fear! This is why I, DaWa the Greedy One, am here! I'll make this program respond to every loving keystroke you give it.

Let's start with the most obvious thing: Getting the program.

First, you'll need to load up the only place you can publicly obtain it for the time being, . This is JGWeb, a wonderful website run by Hornet of [SMP], one of a few that sprouted at the death of PJG. I suggest looking around this site a bit at some other time but not now. For now, we must concentrate on our holy quest: Conquering QPC!

Anyhow, once that site is loaded, click "Downloads" in the "JG Tools" section (Left Sidebar). Next click "Tools", and find QPC (It is listed as QPC WebTracker at this time, I'll slap Hornet with a large slimy trout a few times and that'll get fixed, no worries). Click and Download away!

I am going to skip the actual installation of the program as far as your computer goes, I assume if you play JG you have at least a few skillz.

Once you have QPC installed, take a brief second before starting that baby up. Either write down [If you are new] or be sure you know what equipment you are using in your Tow, or other ship you are using (Tows and Transports are the ones this program is best for. For ships with smaller cargo, download this program and return to this thread when you reach level 21 or 30, and want some hot credits in your sweaty palms, and you want them quick.)

Ok, you are now ready to load this program up! Double click the EXE (You knew that, of course), and watch the pretty baby start chugging away without you telling it a thing. Downloading Inventory File will become your favorite words in no time!

Now that QPC is waiting for your input, be sure you are ready to spend the next 5 mins or so configuring it a little. It's annoying to have to remember what you have to change yet, etc.

First thing you want to do is Option a. If you are reading this, you most likely want the US server. Press a and hit enter if the server is not already set correctly.

Skip Option b for the moment. Let's go on to c. Once you push c and enter, you will probably be saying "Why did I ever download this?!" Don't worry, it's way worth it in the long run. (Note: This is quickly not worth it in the long run if you do not remember to use Option Q to Exit! It will erase your ship data if you just click the "X" button Windows or other Operating Systems provides. You'll probably forget a few times, but don't worry; Once it saves your ship data the first time, it is permanent...In the future, however, your credits and such will be set to the last time you exited the program properly if you do not do so! Just make sure you exit the program the correct way this time!)

Now that we are in Option c, you are ready to use those typing fingers of yours plus a little memory power. Choice a is pretty easy to get, as long as you know the name of the ship you are using.

Choice b might take a little longer if you have more than one gun. You'll have to go through Selection 1,2,3,etc depending on how many guns you have. Sorry, there is no way to push a button that says "This gun is mounted on all available mounts". Fortunately, this adds just seconds to setup time, and what is a few seconds when we are talking millions of credits?

The rest of the options are handled in the same way as A and B. When you have completed all of the Ship Setup part, we will take a brief moment to save this data, just in case (Remember what I said before?) Get to the main menu of the program, type Q and hit enter. This will quit, which makes the little elves snatch that data with their knarled fingers and shove it into a file they hide somewhere, so they can earn their maggot-infested food allocation of the month. If you don't quit right, the Elven Workers Union doesn't let them do anything, so the old files remain where they were. OK, maybe this tutorial is a little too user friendly...

Load up QPC again. Before we edit options d through f, we will check out g and h. I personally go "one way" , and keep the Flux at 10 ( i can always ask for an escort if its to hot and heavy flux territory), with "minimize distance" (the real good stuff is light anyway, you'll find)

OK, now you are almost ready to begin (Sigh, I know...I sighed too when i was typing this, don't worry poor reader : ) )

**Have JG rippin' and roarin' at this time**

Hit option d. Selection A is simple. This is at the bottom of the screen in JG when you are docked, or type /credits in any "f" channel.

At this time in your career, option b should all be ready to set to "100". It's generally a good idea to have good PR for trucking, taxes are less. Don't worry about editing this one after you have them all above 100, it's mostly relative anyway. (As in, taxes don't matter enough to spend ~2 minutes editing this stuff)

Now comes the tricky part, Selection C. Don't worry, you'll be zooming through these items in a jiffy once you get into this program on a trip-ly basis. (I'll tell you which ones you need to update each time at the end of this thread) About Selection C...Skip it. This number is used in the calculations, but the equation it uses is off...Go to Selection D. Type in tax rate (For you Hauling N00bs, that's found by dividing the buy price of an expensive item by the wholesale price you see in the market window [click the item, punch price in calculator, close item buy box, divide by the price you see without taxes])

Now, edit Selections E and F ("Anywhere" if you are a true trucker, and you know you want to be one).

Then hit "B" and watch the little dots click away. Them elves, working hard for you again : )...Aww shucks, brings a tear to my eye...i'll have to pay them my hard earned credits <Insert Cry.Wav>

When it is done, hit "I" Bing! You are hot on the cash!

Don't forget to Quit correctly after you have done one run and decided this program rocks.

From now on, here is the checklist of items you need to do before each run:
D : Edit Creds/ Find Beacons using Tax Rate
E : I have lost many good runs by messing this part up! Don't forget it!
B : If this data is more than 120 seconds old, it's worthless to you.
I : The best part.

Please, do NOT be afraid to ask questions! Trust me, I did not make this thread so it could slide off the forums while newbies to QPC struggled along trying to figure out how to use it! You can always send me a Private Message if you are the kind of person who doesn't like discussing problems with computers in public : )

Safe flights, Fun Fights, and GREEEEEEED : )
