hmmm a reverse DNS lookup of http://www.paypalwarning.com reveals that the site belongs to Cox Comunications, who just happen to run EasyPay (which just happens to be a competitor of PayPal).

IRL news article from Associate Press
The danger:
Quote:
If state regulators determine PayPal has been running an illegal banking business, the company could face substantial fines dating back to when the service began with 24 users in October 1999. The service had ballooned to 12.8 million accountholders as of Dec. 31.
hehehe...silly fools. ah well, it's not like NetDevil signed an exclusive billing deal with paypal. They've got Themis Group who could handle the direct credit card services instead.

Ah...here's reuters article on the IPO
and the meat:
Quote:
PAYPAL'S NAME RECOGNITION IS STRONG

The patent infringement suit brought against PayPal is not likely to derail investor enthusiasm for the Palo Alto, California-based company's initial public offering, said Ben Holmes, an independent IPO analyst.

And finally, BetterBusinessBureau's file
Damned solid support for paypal there, that and all the whine and cheese festivals elsewhere are suspicious if you do DNS lookups and find all of them to be trolls &/or their rivals

Most, if not all, of PayPals problems have come from not having enough support staff to deal with the inevitable bad deals, where a patron sends money but recieves no (or wrong) product. For JG's use PayPal is perfect for the simple fact that we know we're gonna get what we pay for.

If PayPal suddenly decides to stop these subscriptions, they will probably cancel them (which will also have the side effect of cancelling your account).

We no longer allow new PayPal accounts because of problems with them - double-billed subscriptions turn up rather frequently, payments are not made on time and peoples accounts get disabled while waiting for them to come though, and on occasion no notifications at all are received and accounts get shut off until a user complans and we have to go in manually to add the time.

We highly recommend changing over to the IPS billing system when you get a chance - just wait until your billing period in PayPal is about to expire.

The only double-billings we have ever been aware of involve PayPal, and every single one of these has been user error in either not cancelling the account correctly, having multiple PayPal subscriptions on the same account, or signing up using IPS while also leaving a PayPal subscription active. Unfortunately, because of the way PayPal works, we do not have the ability to prevent these from occuring. This is also why we do not allow direct PayPal subscriptions any longer.

For any issues involving PayPal subscriptions, you can email pilot_support@netdevil.com and we will be able to help resolve the situation, and then place you in NetDevil's billing queue for a refund.

now then. my opinion on all this broohaha? hmph. PayPal has been harrassed repeatedly by big companies wanting to conquer this new territory..all these "complaint sites" and "100,000 rioting customers" are the result of biased reporting on bogus sites and other total BS designed to do one thing: scare customers into their own arms and not paypal.

I've done alot of research on this and it's a BIG deal to alot of BIG corporations...paypal doesn't have a damned chance, especially against the PR flak manufactured/exaggerated/sponsored to destroy PayPal's credibility.

now, i KNOW there are problems with paypal, but in EVERY such case ALL internet payment solutions (no pun intended) suffer from the SAME problems...so singling out PayPal for mistakes and pretending they're some evil corporation sounds a bit too "bill gatus of borg" to me.

San Francisco Chronicle
The article is a commentary on EBay and it's newly acquired company, PayPal. More focus is on EBay, of course, and hte only reason i'm keeping tabs on this is because of morbid curiosity.
