I must be out of my mind :-o
Having completed my Ice medal set and having sworn never to do something that stupid again...
I'm planning to make a start on my nuke medals sometime in the next few days or so. Since I don't want to be stealing ore from the n00bs, I plan to do most of it in unreg around Outer Gyre etc.
I'll be capturing any good roid locations for the squad's benefit as I go.
However, I'll need the assistance of a pilot or two to provide flux cover and help with scouting for roids.
Anyone interested...?
My timezone is a bit screwy for most people but my schedule is pretty free for the next week or so, so I can probably organise myself to fit around any interested parties (probably just means dragging myseld out of bed at 5am).
Cheers

Outer Gyre, wow! You're a tough one Prag, personally, I say the noobs can work around you
If your serious, I can fly support on weekdays from bout 0700-0930 PST. Dunno if that in any way matches with you sked, but it's the best I can do 8)
Let me know.

well, i don't know about anywhere else, but Quadrangle has the sweetest rads...not to mention third gate (bunch of quad clusters...three of them)coords are in mining locations forum and that's not even counting the "rad heaven" cluster in tictacs. |

What are the richest sectors in space and how many units of ore do they have?
During beta when I was signing up for the game and reading up on UMEC for the first time :) I had a (now rather fancifal) mental image of large scale (i.e. involving at least 10 ships) mining operations in sectors.
Assuming a rich enough sector actually existed, I envisioned :) a goodly number of tows and mining ships - at least 5 say engaging in mining operations - scouts to act as spotters and seek out large as yet unmined roids and escorts to keep the sector clear of flux and to escort the miners to a nearby station and back when they fill up.
Reality intervened :- sectors seem a lot more sparse of resources when you actually put more than one ship in them, and it takes too long to mine too few units to actually fill mining vessels (well -tows) up in a single session.
Well - I can dream. |

flux exp actually should really be cut back. for c6 and up the exp gained is totally out of proportion to the difficulty of the job at hand - well - for some of the flux perhaps the exp is fair for a solo pilot, but with a wing team doing the whole tag and chase... its ridiculously easy to score hundreds of exp per hour.
It really is a case that fluxing is the only way to level, and having in the past gone from level 26 to 32 in 2 days (er, about 8-10 solid :) hours Id guess) by fluxing... fluxing is really just too easy - at least compared to the other missions. Maybe 7500 exp per c9 (iirc) is right, and its simply that mission exp needs to be boosted lots. |

Well... it has to be said... :D
Yes.. I could do it all solo in Quant space and to hell with the n00bs but adding a little risk is also what I was looking for. Not huge risk... I'm not keen to do it in Pulsar but a little... a few snails and mantas here and there.
Just enought to require a little co-operation (United), in a less traveled area (Exploration) and the nuke gem (Mining) seemed like a good idea.
I'll hook up with any interested pilots while I'm online... and I'll even try to be online at times where I'm more likely to encounter the rest of you guys. I'm also more than happy to fly support for anyone else who wishes to undertake a similar, craxy venture (now that my laser phoon skills are improving.. tks krish...)
Cheers

? rare mining for veterans should always avoid the small roids. always. i get incensed if i see a violation of that...otherwise, it's there. it gets refreshed 2 units per hour. the chances of one discoing grow the further out from station you go. *g* (j/k last bit)

Advice: Take screenshots of your /cargo listing as you mine. If you get discoed e-mail the most recent shot to support and they will replace the ore.
As for help with mining I'm usally on between 1900 and 2300 Central (unless the roomates find something else for us to do, last night it was washing dishes, fun fun fun) _________________ MadCat

Prag,
My wife will head out of town on the 9th on a business trip (which gives me a little more time to play!) If you name a couple times, I'll see what I can arrange to fly cover. ;) |

Ugh....
Had a bit of a setback today when I backed 180u of semis into a roid in Hyperial.....
Bagger.. the 9th sounds good... hopefully will have the dark medals sorted by then (barring further disaster), so I can get onto the nukes.
I'm what? 2 hours behind you effectively (hang on... just switched to daylight savings time here.. that'll make 3). What time of day suits you best.. morning, afternoon or evening?
Cheers

Way to go Prag!!
Course doing both your medals this quickly must mean your crazy. :-o
I'll log on in my tens at or a little before 1130 AM PST on the 10th. I did check that area out and no ore depot, so I'll just be flying cover.
Cheers, Bags |

Progress so far...
With Bagger providing flux cover and doing a great job of scouting for me, I gathered 15% of my required rads in the first 2 hour session in Inner Storm.
I flux in Inner Storm all the time and it was nice to stop and look around. Amazing sector. Some of the prettiest clusters I have ever seen.
Cheers

I did my second major session in Inner Storm today with GreenDrazi, RoidScout and Krishna1 performing escort duties (between discos anyway).
I'm very pleased to report that I now have 38% of my required rads (that's 155u).
I would have got more but I decided to bail when infestations started to appear in unreg and faction space.
Thanks to those who assisted with flux cover and thanks to GreenDrazi, who scoped a sweet cluster for me that doesn't appear to be in our database. From the right spot inside the cluster I could hit large roids of type: radio, common, ice and precious without having to move!!
Cheers

Prag, I'm still in my Tens at QC. I should be available Tuesday and Wednesday mornings between 0830-1230 Hawaii time. Please tell me if this works for you, cause if not I'll jump back in a tow and work on Nukes and experience. I can still provide cover even in my tow, so I'm not abandoning you :D . |

Another trip to Inner yesterday with GreenDrazi yielded 180u of ore (total) in 2 hours.
Rads now at 255u... over half way! :)

Whew...
less than 50u to go as of this moment... Working around depot/Tripoin/Quadrangle are 'cos there's no-one else on... I feel like a bit of a thief but since I lost 2 days this week, I'm feeling less than rigidly principalled. Hopefully I'll knock this off tonight....
Cheers

Hurrah!
It's done! :)
Thanks to all those who offered support, either as escorts or just with encouraging words.
I celibrated the completion by artying uop my bomber and kicking the hell out of a whole bunch of mantas and snails.
Of course, that leaves me requiring 28 missile hits for skill start #19........
Cheers

Stingers are my new missile of choice. More expensive than smackers, but far more accurate and hit a wider variety of flux... |
